EC Grad

I think I can say with 100% certainty that Pookie is now an EC Grad. In the last 2 weeks she has started waking up in the middle of the night to tell me she has to go pee, and during the day she has been 100% reliable, and lets me know when she has to go. My hope was that she would be a grad by the time she turned 2, so we are 2 months ahead of schedule!

I remember when I first started reading about EC it seemed so over the top, and foreign to me. By no means was I against it but it just seemed extremist. Now it seems like the most natural thing you could do.

Last week my sister sent me a link to an article on ECing,
and it just BLEW MY MIND that people got so angry and were so negative about it in their comments. I think a lot of people totally miss the point, and think that you are trying to "train" a newborn, and really it isn't about that at all. Some people say "it is the parents that are trained"... I know some EC parents get offended by this but I do think there is truth to that... and SO WHAT?

So what if I have trained myself to listen to my babies needs, and make sure she isn't sitting in a dirty diaper? Is that really so bad? After my husband - who really just goes along with my ideas, read the article and comments he said "but who puts an age limit on getting past crapping yourself? Seriously!?! " . So true! What is so bad about a child learning to use the potty sooner than later?

I agree 100%!! Someone in the article also compared it to "fads" like baby sign... I almost posted back to ask how many unnecessary fits their child threw because of communication frustration! I think EC is a great tool! Sure it isn't for everyone, you have to have the right mindset. PS I may be asking you for EC advice here soon when I start with E! Thanks for posting that article, hopefully someone took away some encouragement from it, and ignored the ignorant comments!!

You know, I don't even need to click through to see any of the comments they are so repetitive, banal and BORINGLY ignorant!

"My college textbook said it is impossible"...

"I want my baby to be a baby as long as possible!" (That's why I let it sit in it's waste until my convenience, wean it prematurely and chuck it in a play pen to let it learn to cry itself to sleep!)

Pfft, all rubbish. Sometimes I try to add a coment to the other ec mamas who hop on those articles TRYING to be a ray of logical thought, sometimes I don't even bother!

That's great your daughter is doing so well, she is a cutie!

I'd love to share your EC story on my new site/s, let me know, and I'll send you the 10 questions,

Charndra from Part Time Diaper Free.

Congratulations to you, your husband and your daughter for being successful with EC. I agree with your comments. Why put an age limit on when to start potty training your kid? I think you are right it is really about the parent training and learning from their child what the parent needs to do. I am looking forward to having kids and practicing EC - I share information about EC every chance I get. I think that our society has just gotten people to take the easy and convenient way out instead of really understanding their children. I look forward to following your blog - thanks for sharing!
